Logic in song…

I like this song because it talks about logic– but, it disturbs me to…

Don’t think me unkind
Words are hard to find
There are only cheques I’ve left unsigned
From the banks of chaos in my mind
And when their eloquence escapes me
Their logic ties me up and rapes me

Poets, priests, and politicians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
No-one’s jamming their transmission
And when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you

The casual use of the term “rape” is disturbing..

In an otherwise good song, why use that term… “wrecks” you is what I thought it said — and I think it’s actually a better fit.

I’m also kind of disturbed by how logic could actually rape someone… I suppose the term is used metaphorically, like Andy said… but, really… the

→ symbol is the only kinda phallic symbol there…  and logic isn’t exactly about to sneak up on someone, drag them to an ally and force them to have sex…

I suppose, really — the song is a good reason to take formal logic — so that when you find yourself in a dark ally with a logic problem that’s trying to rape you, you can defeat it…

As a feminist, this song has bothered me for a long time. I think your comments are spot-on.

It is my understanding that the radio play version does say, ‘wrecks.’ Which I think makes better sense.
