… be successful in class, generally

Contrary to the beliefs of a few of my students, I don’t fail students I don’t like..
The Comm Studies folks did a study of students who didn’t complete their courses with a C or better…  As my pal Aaron notes,
So, we collected data on our students and looked at three things: missing the first day of class, missing the equivalent of 2 weeks of class meetings or more, and failing to complete/turn more than 15% of the total course work.

Guess what? 80% or more of students who did one or more of these things were unsuccessful, and 80% of the unsuccessful students did one or more of these things.

So, the shocking conclusion is that students who miss more than 2 weeks of class, OR miss the first day of class, OR fail to turn in assignments worth 15% of the grade don’t succeed in the course… hmmm…   80% of unsuccessful students did one or more of these things.

So, if you want to fail a class, don’t go OR miss the first day OR don’t turn stuff in… it’s kinda simple, really.
